– The document was found in a filing cabinet in North Carolina in 2022 and is one of only eight known to still exist.
– The copy was printed after the Constitutional Convention in 1787 and is one of about 100 copies printed by Charles Thompson.
– The document includes a letter from George Washington asking for ratification and emphasizes the need for compromise and giving up some individual liberties for the greater good.
– The last similar copy of the Constitution sold for 400 dollars in 1891, while another copy sold for a record 43.2 million dollars in 2021.
– Other historical documents are also up for auction, including a first draft of the Articles of Confederation and a journal of the North Carolina convention debating ratification of the Constitution.
