Sat Sep 07 06:07:14 UTC 2024: – Ganesh Utsav starts on the fourth day of the bright fortnight of Bhadrapad month.
– During the festival, people worship Lord Ganesha with rituals and offerings of laddoos and modaks.
– Ganesha’s vehicle, the mouse, is considered auspicious.
– According to Ganesh Puran, the mouse was originally a Gandharva named Kraunch who got cursed to become a mouse.
– Despite becoming a mouse, the size of Kraunch’s body did not decrease and he continued to roam around causing destruction.
– Kraunch entered the ashram of Parashar Rishi and destroyed everything.
– The sages prayed to Ganesh to eliminate the terror of the mouse.
– Ganesh tried several times to control the mouse but was unsuccessful, until he finally subdued him by throwing his noose.
– The mouse then requested Ganesh to carry his weight, and since then, the mouse became Ganesh’s vehicle.
