– The violence escalated after a heavy exchange of fire between armed men in the hills around 7 km from the district headquarters.
– Earlier, a person was killed and five others were injured in Bishnupur district as suspected militants fired improvised rockets at villages.
– Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh condemned the violence as “acts of terrorism” and stated that the state government will take necessary action to fight such forms of terrorism.
– The Manipur Education Department ordered the closure of all educational institutes in the state on September 7, and a civil society organization announced an indefinite “public emergency” asking people to stay indoors due to unabated attacks by Kuki militants.
