His best Test score so far is 205 runs, scored against Ireland in June 2023. Former captain Graham Gooch holds the record for the fastest century in Test cricket, scoring 100 runs off 95 balls against India in 1990. England, losing the toss and batting first, ended the day at 221 for 3, with Pope scoring 103 runs. Ben Duckett also played a strong innings with 86 runs. Sri Lanka’s Lahiru Kumara took two wickets for his team. Root, however, did not perform well in this match.
