
Wed Sep 04 03:48:49 UTC 2024: 1. Sandip Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, and three others have been remanded to CBI custody for eight days in connection with financial irregularities at the institute.
2. The CBI sought 10-day custody, citing a large nexus involved in the corruption case that needs to be thoroughly investigated.
3. The CBI has named Ghosh in an FIR and charged him with criminal conspiracy and cheating under IPC as well as the Prevention of Corruption Act.
4. The investigation was initiated following allegations from former deputy superintendent Dr Akhtar Ali, who accused Ghosh of illegal activities including sale of unclaimed corpses and trafficking of biomedical waste.
5. The Calcutta High Court ordered the transfer of the probe from a state-constituted SIT to the CBI based on Ali’s petition.
6. The CBI has conducted a search operation at Ghosh’s residence and subjected him to polygraph tests related to financial misconduct and the medic’s murder case.
7. Several entities, including M/s Ma Tara Traders, M/s Eshan Café, and M/s Khama Louha, have been named in connection with the corruption case.
