Tue Sep 03 10:26:57 UTC 2024: Thulasimathi Murugesan, born with a birth deformity in her left hand, has won India its first women’s podium in Para badminton at Paris. Her father, an obsessive sports lover, refused to tell her about her disability and got her used to competing alongside able-bodied children. Thulasimathi demanded to know why she wasn’t good enough for international events, which led her to pursue Paralympics qualification. Her dedication and sacrifices, including growing up in poverty, have led to this achievement. Her training at the Gopichand academy and support from various sources have helped her excel in the sport. Despite her non-functioning left arm posing challenges, Thulasimathi’s agility and intelligence have propelled her to success. Her father’s fairytale of her winning big international medals has come true with this achievement.
