The Supreme Court has refused to cancel the NEET-UG 2024 exam due to a lack of evidence proving a systemic leak of question papers. The government and CBI argued that the leaks were localized to Hazaribagh and Patna, with ongoing arrests being made. The court expressed concern over cancelling the exam, affecting over 23 lakh students, and ruled that students identified as benefiting from the leak should be barred from admission. The counselling process may now begin, with a possible rank tally change due to an ambiguous Physics question. Over 4.20 lakh candidates may lose grace marks, leading to the perfect score of 720/720 being impacted. The court did not intervene in the re-test for 1,563 candidates who were given extra marks for being given the wrong question paper.
