Majuli One-Day Itinerary

6:00 am: Wake up and prepare for an exciting day exploring Majuli, the largest river island in the world.

6:30 am: Start your day with a visit to Kamalabari Satra, one of the most prominent satras (monastic institutions) in Majuli. The satra is located around 5 km from the center of the island. Checklists for the visit include comfortable footwear, sunglasses, and a camera. Kamalabari Satra holds great historical and cultural significance, as it is known for its unique mask-making traditions and performances of the Sattriya dance form.

7:30 am: Head to Auniati Satra, which is approximately 12 km away from Kamalabari Satra. This journey will take you through scenic landscapes and offer a glimpse of the local way of life. Don’t forget to bring along some snacks, water, and sunscreen. Auniati Satra is renowned for its collection of ancient artifacts, valuable manuscripts, and beautiful handmade masks.

12:30 pm: Stop for lunch at one of the local restaurants or cafes that offer authentic Assamese cuisine. Indulge in traditional dishes like masor tenga (sour fish curry) or khar (a traditional alkaline dish). Be sure to try some traditional sweets like pithas.

2:00 pm: Continue your journey and head towards Samaguri Satra, situated approximately 15 km from the erosion site. Remember to carry water, snacks, and an umbrella during this part of the trip. Samaguri Satra is famous for its mask-making unit, where skilled artisans create intricate masks used in traditional dance performances and religious rituals.

4:00 pm: Proceed towards Dakhinpat Satra, located around 11 km from Samaguri Satra. Take along a water bottle, comfortable walking shoes, and a small bag for souvenirs. Dakhinpat Satra is one of the oldest institutions in Majuli and is a great place to learn about Vaishnavite culture. Get enchanted by the architectural beauty and explore the prayer halls and art displays.

6:00 pm: Witness the mesmerizing sunset at Tengapania, a small village on the outskirts of Majuli. It is around 6 km from Dakhinpat Satra. Carry a jacket or wrap as the evenings can get chilly. Relax by the riverbank, take in the serene surroundings, and enjoy the magical colors of the setting sun.
